BFA Preview

Pre-College Summer Studio for grades 9-11

What is it like to earn a BFA degree at a world-class university? BFA Preview gives you a glimpse!

BFA Preview is a three-week residential studio for current high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Students live on the historic UM campus, make work in their own studio and have access to top-notch facilities. Under the direction of University of Michigan faculty and staff, students immerse themselves in studio work exploring both traditional and experimental media to produce a variety of projects. Students enhance what they are learning in the studio through field trips to the Ann Arbor Art Fair, the University of Michigan Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit and the Detroit Institute of Art.

In addition to studio classes, students will learn about the college admission process, career choices in the visual arts and design, and how to create a competitive portfolio. By the end of the program, participants will have a more sophisticated understanding of creative practice and a diverse portfolio. Participants mount an exhibition of their work and host a reception for their friends and family at the end of the session.
