Ford School students have interned in the Detroit mayor’s office often over the past several decades, including internships funded by the Ford Motor Company Fund between 1994 and 2005. The David Bohnett Public Service Fellowship established in 2010 solidifies the Ford School’s commitment to the City and adds critical tuition support for the students, enabling the School to attract top graduate students who have a deep interest in urban policy and in the revitalization of the City of Detroit. Students are assigned to staff and projects within the Mayor’s Office with the possibility of being “loaned” to other City departments as needed.
Previously, students have assisted the City in areas such as economic development, revenue projection and tax collection policy, youth and neighborhood programs, grants management, and evaluation of the Mayor’s goal based governance system.
