The University of Michigan, through its Family Assessment Clinic (School of Social Work) and Child Protection Team (University Health Systems and Medical School) provides multidisciplinary assessments and case consultation on complex child welfare cases, usually referred by MDHS or the courts. Our goal is to provide culturally appropriate, comprehensive assessments of children and families in the child welfare system and thereby to guide accurate intervention, keep families together, and improve the life chances of maltreated children.
In addition, we provide evidence-based treatment to children and families affected by child maltreatment. We accept referrals from families, MDHS, and courts.
Finally, the Family Assessment Clinic provides case record reviews and expert testimony related to child welfare best practice and standard of care. Often these caes are involved in litigation.
