Females Excelling More in Math, Engineering and the Sciences (FEMMES)

FEMMES is a student-led organization that encourages the participation, self-confidence, and excitement of minority women in CS/STEM fields through free, hands-on experiential learning programs for 4th through 8th grade girls from underserved areas. Our day-long capstone events in U of M laboratories and our after school events at local elementary schools in the greater Southeast Michigan area provide teaching and mentorship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, and faculty members at the University of Michigan. Through FEMMES, girls have the opportunity to participate in activities related to all CS/STEM fields, engaging and exposing them to a broad range of ideas and inspiration both at their home schools and in an academic environment. Since the founding of the UMich Chapter of FEMMES, we have served over 1000 girls from Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Detroit and other communities.
