Firearm Injury Prevention

Description

Developed by the U-M Departments of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine, the materials have three video modules and a handout for parents. No prerequisite knowledge is required to use the materials. The first module gives an epidemiological overview of injury incidence in the U.S. The second demonstrates the basics of firearms, including types and parts, ammunition, actions, and safe storage. This module could be particularly helpful for those who may not have previous experience with firearms or knowledge of appropriate firearm storage options. The third module has three common clinical scenarios are presented that demonstrate effective communication techniques.
