Foreclosure Prevention

Delinquent property taxes or mortgage foreclosure can be an overwhelming burden for older adult homeowners with limited fixed incomes and/or health problems. Seniors can avoid losing their homes to property tax or mortgage foreclosure with help from the Elderly Foreclosure Prevention Program.

Staff members from the Housing Bureau for Seniors work with seniors in the Washtenaw County area. Services range from low-interest loans from the Ann Arbor Loan Fund or the Washtenaw County Loan Fund, to obtaining grants for property taxes from area agencies including the Community Services Agency, Veterans Services and the Department of Human Services. Ongoing follow-up on property tax assistance is provided and through free income tax preparation programs during the tax season. Assistance is free and available to all senior residents of Washtenaw County.
