Girls in Science and Engineering (GISE @ UM)
Summer Day Camp

Description

GISE @ UM is an exciting one week day program for girls who have completed the 7th or 8th grade. Each day includes hands-on laboratory experimentation, computer activities and introductions to on-line network systems. Girls meet women scientists and engineers, obtain information about careers of the future, and have lots of fun exploring the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor. Girls can explore the world of ultrafast optics, learn what DNA reveals, experiment with chemical compounds, build and launch a rocket, or unlock the secrets of the universe through physics.

The working world of scientists and engineers at a major research university unfolds as students participate in a variety of activities designed especially for them. Girls experience the excitement, fun, rewards and challenges of real-life science and engineering research in progress and meet other girls with interests in science and engineering.
