Maximizing Academic Success (MAS)

Maximizing Academic Success (MAS) is an educational enrichment program that serves primarily Latino students in Monroe Middle and High Schools. MAS deploys a team of U-M students who present a comprehensive college awareness curriculum including, personal and academic goal setting, career exploration, college terminology, searching for colleges, the college application process, financial aid and scholarship resources, and following college preparation timelines. The program also works with parents to inform them about the importance of higher education and how to better prepare their children for college. MAS focuses on instilling in the students the importance of a college education, the opportunities a college education can provide and, most importantly, the belief that a college education is absolutely an achievable goal. Youth participants in MAS are mentored by U-M students and are exposed to the opportunities provided by a higher education through visit to the U-M campus.
