The Lansing Service Center enhances the ability of the University’s faculty, administrators, staff, and students to stay in touch with state officials, alumni, prospective students, representatives from other universities, and citizens who want to have access to the resources of the University. Established in 1993, the Lansing Service Center is an integral part of our outreach efforts. The office, staffed by two full-time employees, is located near the State Capitol in mid-Michigan, making it convenient to state government and citizens from Flint to Muskegon. The office is a gateway to the University. The staff’s liaison with the campuses — Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint — increases the opportunity for collaboration and dialogue between the University, Lansing and communities statewide. Outreach is done to the Mid-Michigan cities of Lansing and suburbs, Battle Creek, Jackson, and Mount Pleasant. The Lansing Service Center supports a variety of important interactions between the University and the people of Michigan.
-Staff link University personnel with community agencies, state and local governments, the Legislature, and other groups to develop programs, technology networks and other services using University resources that benefit their respective constituents and all citizens of Michigan. Staff keep members of the Executive branch, the Legislature and their staffs apprised of research at the University that can be helpful in solving problems and developing policy. It facilitates visits to campus by state and local officials who want to see first-hand the kinds of research or teaching that might be helpful to Michigan residents. This interaction also increases awareness of student life and concerns. The staff of the office collaborate with colleagues from other public universities and the office is accessible to representatives from other institutions.
