Youth Theatre Fellows: A Residential Summer Theatre Camp (YTF)

Returning for its fourth consecutive year, the University of Michigan Detroit Center presents “Youth Theatre Fellows,” a residential youth theatre summer camp. Targeted to Michigan students in grades 8-12, the program provides a unique opportunity for participants to immerse themselves into the multi-faceted aspects of the stage world.

This one-week intensive program features:

1) Intensive workshops with academic and professional theatre artists
2) Instructors with years of academic and professional experience in the arts
3) Workshops on acting, design, playwriting, marketing/development, and theatre management
4) Tour of University of Michigan Department of Theatre & Drama facilities in Ann Arbor
5) Two field trips to cultural institutions – including the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and a tour of the Detroit Opera Theatre
6) Two public performances by students of an original play
7) A Youth Theatre Fellows certificate upon successful completion of the program.

The program begins with an orientation session. When not on field trips, workshops and rehearsals occur from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., students will sleep in nearby Wayne State University dorms, supervised by program chaperones.
